Supervisor Duties
- Actively engages in recruitment and hiring new employees
- Clearly defines performance expectations, ensure accountability, and provides ongoing informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring. Conducts formal performance evaluations
- Ensures employees have necessary resources
- Oversees and directs the work of staff; serves as mentor, coach, and leader, and resolves complaints or issues
- Promotes professional development opportunities
- Develops and fosters supportive working relationships, motivation, and engagement
- Communicates information to staff on an ongoing basis to influence staff engagement and to be a part of a larger community
- Takes corrective action in a timely manner
- Recognizes and rewards employees for good performance
- Schedules employee work hours/shifts; monitor hours worked; approve payable time and absence requests
- Adjusts leadership style as needed to achieve results

Residential Student Learning and Development
- Advises and facilitates residence hall leadership council(s)
- Facilitates student, resources, and support networks among residents
- Presents resident orientations and educational programs relating to safety, wellness, alcohol, drugs, career paths etc., to the residential area communities
- Develops, maintains, and facilitates participation in activities directed toward residential communities that value and support diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusiveness
- Implements the Housing and Residence Life Residential Curriculum Model including but not limited to assessment of communities, development and facilitation of learning strategies, and evaluation of learning strategies to measure degree of learning
- Facilitates and participates in academic initiatives including living learning communities (as applicable) including but not limited to meeting with faculty, staff, and students of the LLC, programming, and assessment and evaluation of the learning outcomes and goal
- Supports student staff and residents in their academic success. This includes support of the student retention committee and academic success programs
- Encourages faculty involvement in residence halls
Administration and Programming
- Conducts weekly residential hall area inspections, check-in/outs, and emergency lockouts to student and staff and functions as front-line supervisor when student questions arise
Completes all reports, including programming, incident, department responsibility, Living Learning Community and end-of- quarter/year reports, on a regular basis or as directed by the Director or designee
- Consults with Housing and Residence Life administration on a regular basis as to appropriateness of budget expenditures and student revenue generating activities
- Represents Housing and Residence Life and serves on campus-wide committees as assigned
- Assists in supporting Orientation and Transition Programs with Wildcat Day, Orientation, Wildcat Welcome Weekend and First-Six Weeks.
- Communicates and responds to students, staff, and faculty in supporting the success of residential students
- Assists with the development and distribution of hall and campus activities through such means as, social media, posters, and newsletters
- Assists with university, student, and residence hall assessments processes including benchmarking, retention efforts, and student connections including but not limited to Skyfactor Resident Assessment, NSSE, and Student Success Survey
-Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of living learning programs, act as a liaison for student staff and appropriate University faculty and staff participants
- Coordinates area and hall-wide residence hall student development programs. Facilitate diverse activities that value and promote multicultural issues
- Presents educational program-related workshops as needed
- Assists with the coordination of special functions within Housing and Residence Life. These operations may include student staff selection, staff development, staff recognition, academic initiatives, advising RHA, and professional staff selection, etc.
- Works directly with students, faculty, hall staff, and various other University and community resources to meet the educational and developmental needs of residence hall students
Residential Student Support
- Facilitates student learning and growth within a residential community setting
- Provides behavioral intervention to students including counseling, mediation, problem solving, policy incidents and referrals of individuals or groups of students regarding personal concerns, academic needs, or policies
- Serves in an on-call rotation with residence life that serves as immediate contact and responder for students and university officials
- Responds to and supports medical, safety and security emergencies and to students in personal crisis as needed. Serves as departmental representative in these situations and exercises independent judgment with response and communication to supervisor
- Reviews incident reports, follows-up with students involved in documented incidents, adjudicates conduct, and determines various levels of behavioral sanctions.
- Seeks consultation regarding behavior interventions and refers high-level incidents to Housing and Residence Life leadership or designee
