As a Detention Officer, you will work in a Police Lock-Up and will perform all duties that are required of a Detention officer.  Duties include, but are not limited to the processing of new prisoners- to include fingerprinting and processing through the lien, interacting with and monitoring the prisoners during their time at the lock-up until they are either released on bail or transferred into the custody of the Police Department for transportation to Court.

$2000 Sign On Bonus - $500 payable after complete training and 90 days of continuous employment, $500 payable after 180 days of continuous employment, $500 payable after 270 continuous employment, remaining $500 payable after 365 days of continuous employment. Bonus amount is subject to applicable federal and state income withholdings.

Main Responsibilities

Specific Duties and Essential Functions

• Process prisoners
• Monitor prisoners during their stay in lock-up until released on bail or into custody of Police Department for transportation to court
• Watch for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards
• Sound alarms or calls police or fire department in the event of an emergency
• Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities.  Maintain written logs as required by the post
• Interact with inmates in a professional manner

The Ideal Candidate

Education, Licenses and Certifications Required

• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
• Must have a valid driver’s license if driving a company-owned or client-provided vehicle
• Must be able to pass any state or site required training

Type and Length of Specific Experience Required

• Prior employment as a Police or Corrections Officer
• Graduate of Police or Corrections Academy

Skills Required

• Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Active listening skills
• Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively
• Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately
• Attention to detail

Other

• Must be at least 18 years old or the minimum age required by the state, if higher
• Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
• Be able to work flexible schedules and respond to work assignments with little to no advance notice
• Be able to operate radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors
• Must have demonstrated ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public
• Subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law
• Must be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military

Physical Requirements and Environment

Environment:         Indoor and outdoor, temperature ranges from moderate to extreme cold/heat

Major activity:        Walking, standing, speaking, listening, observing

Physical efforts to carry out job duties:  Standing, walking, sitting, with minimal to no stooping or kneeling
