With more than 120 operations and about 20,000 employees worldwide, Precision Castparts Corp. is the market leader in manufacturing large, complex structural investment castings, airfoil castings, forged components, aerostructures and highly engineered, critical fasteners for aerospace applications. In addition, we are the leading producer of airfoil castings for the industrial gas turbine market. We also manufacture extruded seamless pipe, fittings, forgings, and clad products for power generation and oil & gas applications; commercial and military airframe aerostructures; and metal alloys and other materials for the casting and forging industries. With such critical applications, we insist on quality and dependability – not just in the materials and products we make, but in the people we recruit.

Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, this over 10 billion dollar company employs more than 20,000 people worldwide.  PCC has over 120 plants and has a presence in twenty-six states in the US and in over a dozen countries. PCC is relentless in its dedication to being a high-quality, low-cost and on-time producer; delivering the highest value to its customers and shareholders while continually pursuing strategic, profitable growth.

Effective early February 2016, Berkshire Hathaway, led by chairman and CEO Warren E. Buffett, acquired Precision Castparts Corp.

Wyman-Gordon is the premier forging company for the global aerospace and energy markets. Providing a specialized service, Wyman-Gordon manufactures forged components from high grade titanium and nickel based alloys.  Such components are used for jet engines, including fan disks, compressor disks, turbine disks, and shafts.  We also produce titanium and steel forgings for airframes, including wing beams, wing boxes, door and window frames, as well as nacelle and landing gear components.  Wyman-Gordon also extrudes steel products for use in power plants and oil and gas industry applications. Our reputation, market position, and operational efficiency are reliant upon our demonstrated ability to continually improve.

Originally founded in 1883 in Worcester, MA, the Wyman-Gordon Company boasts more than 125 years of forging experience and first manufactured forgings for the aerospace industry during WWI. Recognizing the need for more expansive heavy manufacturing capabilities to support larger and more advanced aircraft designs, the Department of Defense built the forging facility now located in North Grafton, MA in 1946, equipping it initially with an 18,000 ton closed-die press. In 1953, the facility was expanded to include the 35,000 and 50,000 ton presses in what was referred to as the “Air Force Heavy Press Program”. From this program’s inception, Wyman-Gordon was chosen to operate the North Grafton facility due to the company’s long-term experience and reputation in the industry. In 1988, Wyman-Gordon purchased the facility outright from the U.S. Government and ran it as a private company until 1999 when Wyman-Gordon was acquired by Precision Castparts Corp. (PCC)

Working under direct supervision, level one atomization operators complete basic atomization tasks such as building charges to specification based on material and process state, performing powder dumps, loading raw material into furnaces, supporting vacuum process, heat up cycles, pouring of material, process documentation for each process, requiring mechanical aptitude, basic math skills, basic data entry, and ability to follow technical processes and procedures, and operate cranes and forklifts. 0-1 YOE

  • Follows check lists, directions and instructions from Atomizer Techs II & III to combine solid, nickel-based alloy with powder mix in proper proportions according to specifications associated with each order and puts combined material in vacuum sealed argon canisters.

  • Prepares dual furnace system to ensure that both furnaces are prepared and ready to accept original material into the first furnace and melted liquid mixture into the second furnace.

  • Uses hydraulic lifts to lift mixtures and canister to furnace opening, places canister with materials in furnace, secures canister and furnace door and leaves canister in furnace for prescribed time for the reduction heating process to melt mixture into liquid state monitoring the process

  • Operates hydraulic controls to canister and pour liquid mixture from canister into ceramic dish placed in second furnace and monitors the process to ensure an even flow into ceramic dish.

  • Monitors flow of liquid material through the ceramic dish and injection of argon gas into regulated flow of the liquid mixture as it interacts with argon gas in the atomizer and is cooled into powder and collected in 2k collectors.

  • Operates hoisting equipment to move 2k collectors with powder material to blenders, tips canister to pour powder into blender and sets blender controls to

  • Completes necessary paperwork and computer work documenting the completion of each step of process and noting required temperature readings and results.

  • Monitors the operation of equipment, heating cycles and temperatures.

  • Performs weekly furnace maintenance and cleaning including operating cranes to swap out ceramic crucibles, opening furnace doors for 3.5 hour cool down prior to cleaning furnace chamber, removing soot and replenishing the water system and then slowly reheats furnace to prevent cracking the ceramic crucible while monitoring the heat of furnace and the water temperature and pressure.

  • Performs thermal cleansing of atomizers between production runs to remove traces of prior alloy.

  • Cleans and maintains the atomizers including cleaning the units every 1-3 months including cleaning alloy from air and other grinders and draining argon and fluid lines

  • Monitors the availability of raw and re-use materials, use high-low lifting and material handling system to retrieve material as necessary and logs material that has been checked in.  Separates raw material alloys type, tracks what is in process and what is available, including the quantity and location of re-use and raw materials.

  • Performs some basic preventive maintenance on furnaces and atomizers parts such as lubing and tightening parts.  Maintains argon and vacuum pumps to ensure that they are running.  Spot checks equipment for operating problems, performs some minor repairs and informs Atomizer Tech Team Lead of more advanced repair issues.

             High school degree or GED

•           Prior mechanical and manufacturing experience preferred

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports. Ability to speak effectively before supervisors or employees of Company.

  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear, and smell.

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or balance.

  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to vibration. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

  • The ability to perform basic welding.

  • Able to operate a forklift and pass forklift qualification testing

  • Uses lift and hoisting equipment to lift and move objects weighing several hundred pounds
