At the Seattle Institute for Biomedical and Clinical Research (SIBCR), scientists seek new ways to improve the health and well-being of Veterans through research and education conducted at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System and Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center.

Summary:

Research Study Assistant will be working for a multi-center national study at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System through Seattle Institute for Biomedical and Clinical Research.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years college-level course work and one year experience, or the equivalents of education and experience
  • Familiarity with computers and basic software, including word processing, spreadsheets and database programs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are strongly preferred

Responsibilitis:

  • Under general supervision, the incumbent will assist with various aspects of recruitment of research volunteers, screening of subjects, consenting and scheduling appointments for the study
  • Under general supervision, may be required to explain various aspects of the study and the protocol to potential subjects
  • Responsible for monitoring the progress of study participants through the use of logbooks and brief interviews, including psychosocial questionnaires
  • Responsible for obtaining medical records from the doctors’ offices and hospitals, extracting relevant medical history
  • Required to perform various measurements of study participants, including weight, blood pressure, EKGs, blood draws, and anthropometric measurements
  • Assist with preparing and submitted regulatory paperwork
  • Collect and prepare data for computer input and ensure confidentiality of all data
  • Required to process all samples for shipment to central laboratories
  • Assist with answering phones, ordering supplies, and assisting with inventories

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Required is a minimum of two years college-level course work and one year experience, or the equivalent of education and experience
  • Incumbent will be required to travel locally and should possess a reliable vehicle and current Washington State driver's license. May also be required to travel to one or two national meetings lasting 2-3 days
  • The incumbent will preferably be familiar with clinical and social issues facing an elderly population
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are strongly preferred
  • Willingness to work flexible hours (some evening and possibly some weekends) to accommodate subject’s schedules
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
