Position Overview:

The main duties of the Mechanic position include performing a full range of repair and modification work on heavy equipment vehicles. This is a full time position, requires same day travel and overtime. This position reports to the Shop Manager and has no supervisory responsibility. General Duties and Functions:

  • Be prompt and timely for all assigned shifts, schedules and projects
  • Be aware of and familiar with the Company Handbook and abide by the employment policies and regulations
  • Ensure equipment preventative maintenance is performed timely, thoroughly and correctly at all times
  • Teach, coach and work with team in a constructive manner
  • Consistently keep shop clean and organized to promote professionalism, safety and efficiency
  • Actively participate in any recommended or mandatory trainings
  • Make safety the main priority while working on equipment
  • Ensure all equipment released to the field meets or exceeds all DOT standards
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers and management
  • Additional duties as assigned by management, as this job description is non-exhaustive
  • Willingness to perform duties outside normal scope of work (i.e. work in poor weather conditions or outside normal hours)

Essential Duties and Functions:

  • Perform a full range of repair and modification work on heavy equipment vehicles to include, but not limited to light duty, heavy duty and Redi-Mix trucks, backhoes, loaders and miscellaneous equipment
  • Repair tires, wheels, wheel bearings, idler wheels, idler bearings and oil seals
  • Replaces suspension arms, torsion bars, stabilizer bars, etc.
  • Repair hydraulic and air brake systems
  • Determine the nature and extent of repairs required
  • Perform major and minor repairs on engines, power transmissions, transfers and related electrical, fuel and hydraulic components
  • Use technical manuals and other publications to identify and order repair parts
  • Operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using testing equipment such as compression testers, computer software tools, test meters, micrometers, gauges and overall strong diagnostic skills
  • Test overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency before being released to field
  • Cross-train with applicable positions

Position Requirements:

  • Consent to authorization of a pre-employment work screen
  • Must be able to pass a drug test
  • Consent to authorization of a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Record request
  • Accreditation from school of mechanics or 3 plus years working with heavy construction equipment
  • Class B CDL
  • Understand instructions from supervisory positions, both written and verbal
  • Basic mathematical skills (i.e. Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide)
  • Possess excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Fabrication skills
  • License greater than a Class B CDL
